The Bergin Experience In and Beyond the Classroom

Student Life

Picture
Bergin University of Canine Studies is an intimate campus with small class sizes. Staff is available to students as are the adjunct professors. We strive to provide professors who are working in their field. Students on campus have a common bond…their love of dogs. Students work hard physically and intellectually while attending Bergin College of Canine Studies. However, they also have time to play with dogs and usually do it in groups whether it is hiking, walking on the beach, or hosting a barbecue.

Students are expected to be an important part of the workings of much of the University so that they gain real-world experience working with and training dogs along with running a non-profit or business.

My education at BUCS was superlative. The intimate class sizes, supportive instructors and community of like-minded individuals led to an education experience like no other. And I can't forget to mention my furry four-legged friends! ~  Sarah Anderson
Weekly field trips with assigned dogs to restaurants, malls, and movies are a great way to learn how to work with dogs in public and spend some time in the community.  Students in some degree programs will spend time training shelter dogs while others will attend canine intervention field trips.  Public relations experience will be gained through speaking at events or showing off what you and your assigned dog have learned.

As with any non-profit, our volunteers are an integral part of the University. Students and volunteers will meet at various events and school activities. You will learn from some talented and giving people as you meet these wonderful volunteers.

There is free parking available to students. There is a courtyard at the center of campus for students to gather; an enclosed agility field is situated at the back of the campus where students and dogs can run off  steam. There are no vending machines on campus nor is there a cafeteria serving food. With outside tables and beautiful Sonoma County weather, many students eat lunch on campus with their dogs and newfound friends.

Campus life is busy, ever changing and fun! We hope you join us soon.
